Project Overview
Leicester Science Park, part of the University of Leicester, supported the growth of the region’s space-sector community through Space Park Leicester. VIP worked alongside the client and contractor to complete a full expansion design review, with particular focus on long pipework runs where movement, alignment and system longevity needed careful planning.
Our Approach
VIP started by reviewing the proposed layout and identifying where long runs could introduce thermal movement, stress points and fixings challenges over time. Using our in-house product and industry experience, we worked through practical options with the project team, ensuring the design intent translated into a buildable, maintainable solution. Communication was kept simple and responsive, with clear feedback and recommendations shared promptly so decisions could be made without slowing the programme. Our ISO 9001-aligned approach helped keep the review structured, traceable and easy for stakeholders to follow.
Execution
Working from the available drawings and installation constraints, VIP completed an expansion-focused assessment of the pipework strategy and highlighted key areas for adjustment. We supported the contractor with guidance around movement allowances, sensible fixing philosophy and how best to manage longer pipe corridors across the building. Throughout, our team stayed close to the project, responding quickly to queries and keeping the design review moving forward.
The Outcome
The expansion design review gave the project team added confidence that long pipework runs were properly considered, helping protect performance and reduce the likelihood of future stress-related issues. It also demonstrated VIP’s ability to support complex university and science facilities with hands-on technical input, backed by strong customer care and quality-led processes, even when timescales and coordination pressures were tight.
