Lewisham Exchange
Location: Lewisham, London
Sector: Residential Property
Project Overview
Lewisham Exchange is a landmark new-build development delivering 758 student rooms alongside 67 affordable homes across two towers (35 and 20 storeys), contributing significantly to the regeneration of Lewisham town centre. The project required careful consideration of pipework movement and integrity within a high-rise build environment.
Our Approach
From an early stage VIP worked closely with the client, utilising our Expansion Design Service to support the project’s mechanical design package. This service saw our engineers mark up design drawings with the correct positions for expansion joints, anchors and guides, ensuring thermal movement and pressure thrust within pipework was effectively managed. Our technical design support is backed by professional indemnity insurance and informed by strong engineering expertise, giving consultants and site teams confidence in the solutions provided.
Execution
VIP supplied a range of key expansion products tailored to the project’s specific requirements, including axial expansion joints to accommodate thermal movement, pump connectors to mitigate vibration transmission, and a comprehensive set of anchors and guides to control and direct pipe movement within the system. We also provided bespoke Hercules anchor points, demonstrating our ability to deliver custom-engineered solutions. All components were selected and specified to meet the exact conditions expected on site.
The Outcome
The delivered expansion solution ensured the mechanical systems at Lewisham Exchange could safely and reliably cope with thermal and dynamic forces throughout their service life. VIP’s early involvement and tailored technical design support helped streamline installation and mitigate risks associated with movement control, reflecting our commitment to going the extra mile in customer care and engineering excellence.
