Project Overview
Located within the UK’s established tech corridor, the 46-acre Vantage Data Centre campus in Cardiff was developed to meet growing global demand for secure, high-performance digital infrastructure. Designed to exceed Tier III standards, the site required robust, WRAS approved valve solutions capable of supporting large-scale, high-density cooling systems.
Our Approach
Working closely with our customer, VIP supported the development of a tailored valve specification for the campus’s critical mechanical services. With rack densities ranging from 2kW to 125kW+, reliability and water quality were central considerations. Our team drew on extensive product and industry knowledge to recommend a coordinated package of large-diameter WRAS approved valves up to 80mm, including butterfly valves, strainers, check valves and commissioning valves. Clear communication throughout ensured compatibility with the wider cooling and plantroom strategy, helping the contractor maintain programme certainty on a technically demanding site.
Execution
VIP supplied the agreed valve package in line with the project’s phased delivery, supporting two data centres as they became operational. Given the scale of CWL1, consistency of specification and dependable lead times were vital. Our team remained accessible throughout, responding promptly to technical queries and ensuring all products met required approvals and performance criteria. The combination of WRAS certification and quality manufacturing provided reassurance for a campus designed to operate continuously and efficiently.
The Outcome
The Cardiff campus now stands as one of Europe’s largest data centre developments, with two facilities operational and built to exceed Tier III resilience standards. VIP’s contribution formed part of the essential infrastructure supporting reliable cooling and water systems. The project demonstrated our ability to supply compliant, large-scale valve solutions for mission-critical environments while maintaining the attentive service our customers rely on.
